Well, I noticed on the 24th that is was a year ago I had my gall bladder surgery. (It never writes, calls, texts, emails, anything) Although I still have some stomach problems, removing the gall bladder did help. That’s been the only time I can remember taking an entire week off from work and laying on the couch.
The other anniversary always falls on Brianna’s birthday. I started college the morning she was born. I went to my first class, and came back to the news I was an uncle again. I still remember driving up to Mayville to see her. So it has been 10 years that I’ve been at the campus in one form or the other.
Today Brianna turns 10… wow how fast time flies. We hope the Hannah Montana fan has a great day!
We’ve been waiting for the next Harry Potter movie to come out this fall, the Half-Blood Prince. Erin even re-read the book. November 21st was the announced date. This week word started spreading that Warner Brothers decided to push the release date to July 2009! Yup, we will have to wait a very LONG time to see the movie. According to web sources, the movie is nearly completed. Warner Brothers just doesn’t want to have a bad summer next year in the movies after having a blockbuster summer with the new Batman movie. So it is all about greed for Warner Brothers studios, and its making the blood boil of many Harry Potter fans.
A couple weeks ago my aunt & uncle Mary and Ray celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed a nice party at their place and visited with lots of relatives. This week they are celebrating again. They purchased a winning lottery ticket. It’s not the BIG lottery, but it is enough for them to enjoy life a little more. Congrats and enjoy!
It is dad’s (Jim) birthday today. He still claims he is 19, but Brianna made him tell the truth. He explained to Brianna that he is 19 + 22 + 22.
08-08-08 - The Olympics start today in China. There is a lot of controversy about the location, but we are more excited to see the opening ceremonies and watch nationals compete (in a friendly manner). We hope to see the US and Canada with a high metal total in a couple weeks.
Happy August! The summer is nearing its end… already. August usually meant back to school sales, but I noticed the big stores now start that in early July. I was amazed to see almost all outdoor stuff moved out of the stores shortly after July 4th. This morning is very unusual as we transition from quiet campuses to full houses. August also has a couple family birthdays. There’s someone that turns 10 at the end of August. Whatever August brings, we know it will be an interesting month.
Erin and I spent a perfect weekend kayaking at her family’s lake cabin last weekend. We spent some time just relaxing on the cabin deck and nearly 4 hours out on the water kayaking. It was a lot of fun to try some different waters. We noticed the lakes around here are harder.
We got plenty of visiting time with Erin’s mom, and she took us around to see the tornado destruction in Rolla. The Rolla community has done an excellent job cleaning up and moving on from the tornado.
Hopefully the hot forecast holds for the weekend, as we want to hop in our kayaks once again and enjoy the waters.
Going-home day! We had to be at the airport by 6:30 a.m. The check-in line and security line were both fairly long but we had plenty of time. On the flight between DC and Minneapolis, a young sister and brother sat behind us (probably around ages 8 and 7), flying without their parents, on their way to see their grandparents, and they talked the WHOLE time. We both thought they were pretty funny and the guy sitting next to them was a good sport. In Minneapolis we had just enough time for a quick lunch and then it was the home stretch to Jamestown (with a quick stop in Brainerd). It was a great feeling to get home to our own home (rather than a hotel), our kitty of course, and the everyday routine like driving our cars (rather than riding in cabs) and getting groceries (rather than going out to eat constantly). It was a great trip, and congratulations to the newlyweds Steve and Anne!
Remember to check out the photos!
